Our Association is a non-profit organization registered under the Society's Act since 1959. It provides services for persons with mental and physical handicaps using the Principle of Normalization as its basic philosophy. It is headed by a volunteer Board of Directors and by Executive Director, Henry Sundquist. Although we have offered services to children our present consumers are all adults. We offer residential services and a broad range of developmental day program options.
Our staff total is 100+. They are extremely well-trained and dedicated to serve those with disabilities. Our level entry requirement is the Special Needs Worker Course, First Aid, & Class 4 Drivers License.
Many of our staff are constantly upgrading with courses in Psychology, Medications, Epilepsy, Behavior Management, Communications, and various other pertinent courses. Constant upgrading of CPR and Survival First Aid is mandatory.
Our clinical team works together to develop Behaviour Management approaches and provide staff support in problem-solving. We also have an in-house training team, which provides training in Behaviour Management, Communications, etc. Members of this team instruct the Special Needs Worker Course for Okanagan College and do contractual work for other organizations.
Developmental Resources
We emphasize a continual learning process. Workshops, Seminars and Conferences are frequently offered to staff in addition to in-house training. Our emphasis on learning is demonstrated by a quality library of books, and audio and video tapes. We also do research into technical aids and equipment for persons with physical and neuromotor needs.
